Wow. What is the NHL doing? A six million jump from last year is just too much in my opinion. The lock out year is now officially a waste.

The salary cap is set by a formula. It depends only upon the total revenues of the NHL. If revenues are up, the salary cap goes up.
A rise in the salary cap can be seen as a sign of health of the NHL – although it doesn’t necessarily mean all teams are doing well. There are some weak sister markets struggling to keep up.
